Hartford's Taste of the Nation® for No Kid Hungry is the city's hottest and most trend-forward food and beverage event, bringing together award-winning chefs and mixologists from the region. After a successful 2015 event, this year's event will again feature cocktail and dessert receptions and a multi-course seated dinner prepared tableside by New England’s best chefs.

 
In addition to delicious food, fine wines, local craft beers and premium spirits, guests also enjoy a silent auction and the opportunity to network with the region's professional elite.

Tyler Anderson
Owner/Executive Chef, Millwright's Restaurant & Tavern

Celebrating Tyler Anderson’s local, seasonally-inspired cuisine, a food writer once wrote that the chef cooked “from the ground up.” He respects and supports Connecticut’s farmers and artisan food producers, believing that locally – and lovingly – raised ingredients play an essential role in his kitchen. In his hands, the freshness factor elevates Millwright’s regional New England menu, rooted in tradition but updated for a modern audience.

A California native, Tyler was only 16 years old when began to learn his craft in restaurant kitchens. Each experience helped to develop his culinary skills, his palate and, eventually, a personal cooking style. Tyler has been mentored by some of the best Chef’s in the business and has worked all across the country.

His love of seasonal cooking eventually brought him to Connecticut where the farmers, food artisans and fisherman truly inspired him. While at the Copper Beech Inn in Essex, CT, Tyler received a perfect scoring five star review from Hartford Magazine and The Copper Beech was consistently rated as one of the best restaurants in the state by Connecticut Magazine.

Now as the Chef and Owner of Millwright’s, Tyler and his talented culinary team continue to draw inspiration from locally-grown ingredients and artisan-produced foods. They also can and preserve summer’s harvest at the peak of its freshness for use during the winter months.

Tyler and his team received perfect reviews from The New York Times, Connecticut Magazine and Hartford Magazine. Tyler was also named Chef of the Year for 2014 by the CT Restaurant Association. In 2013, one of Millwright’s dishes was chosen by the James Beard Foundation as one of the 10 Best Things They Ate. Tyler has also twice been nominated for The James Beard Foundations Best Chef Northeast Award (2013, 2014).

Tyler is involved in many philanthropic works some of which are The American Liver Foundation, Ct. Farmland Trust, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Hartford’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry Returns on November 3, 2016

New England’s top chefs, restaurateurs and mixologists join forces to help end childhood hunger

September 20, 2016 [West Hartford, CT] — Residents of Connecticut can enjoy the most celebrated food in the state on November 3rd, when Hartford’s Taste of the Nation® to benefit Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® returns to The Riverview in Simsbury. The annual culinary event will feature the state’s top chefs, sommeliers and mixologists all united for one cause: making sure all children in this country get the healthy food they need, every day. Proceeds from the event benefit No Kid Hungry’s mission to end childhood hunger in America.

Led by Chef Chair Tyler Anderson, Chef/Owner of Millwrights Restaurant in Simsbury and Event Co-Chair Angela Pitrone, of Deloitte, chefs and mixologists are hand-picked by Chef Tyler and Angela, and will provide guests with scrumptious fare a cocktail and dessert reception, as well as a multi-course seated dinner prepared tableside by one of the areas best chefs.

In addition to delicious food, guests will enjoy fine wines, local craft beers, premium spirits, a live auction and the opportunity to network with the region's professional elite. 

Notable participants of this year’s event include Owner/Chef Tyler Anderson of Millwrights Restaurant & Tavern in Simsbury, Executive Chef Chris Eddy of Winvian Farm in Litchfield, Owner/Chef Bill Taibe of The Whelk in Westport, among other prominent chefs throughout the state, and neighboring states of Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and New York.

Every Kid, Healthy Food, Every Day

One in five children in this country struggles with hunger with one in six children in Connecticut alone.  No Kid Hungry is ending childhood hunger in this nation by ensuring that kids start the day with a nutritious breakfast and families learn the skills they need to shop and cook on a budget. Already, No Kid Hungry and its partners have connected kids struggling with hunger with 460 million meals.

In 2015, Hartford’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry raised enough to help feed children in need more than 536,460 healthy meals. Local beneficiaries include Foodshare, Inc., End Hunger Connecticut, and the Community Health Network of Connecticut Foundation.
